Working with Us
Holistika has been caring for pets and their people since 2020. This page explains how we work, how we communicate, and what you can expect from our clinic, whether you are new here or have been with us for years.
Our Holistic Approach
Conventional medicine often focuses on fast symptom relief. An itchy dog gets Apoquel, and the scratching improves within days. We use medications like Apoquel too, especially when a pet is uncomfortable.
The difference is that we don't want symptom control to be the whole plan.
In holistic medicine, we're also asking why the body is reacting this way in the first place. For that same itchy dog, the answer might involve dietary triggers, microbiome imbalance, environmental sensitivity, or a deeper constitutional pattern in Chinese medical terms. Addressing those layers takes more time and more back-and-forth, but the goal is a body that becomes more balanced over time and ideally does not need medications indefinitely.
Many pets improve significantly with this approach, whether that means fewer symptoms, less reliance on medication, or better overall resilience.
The trade-off: Most chronic conditions take more than one visit to address. We may not be able to resolve a long-standing issue in one or two appointments.
Some trial and error is built into this work. Two pets with identical symptoms can respond differently to the same treatment or herb, because their underlying patterns are different. We pay attention and adjust as we go.
While uncommon, if we're not seeing progress after several attempts, we may suggest a different course all together.
But at the end of the day, we're in this together. While we can’t always promise the perfect solution, we can promise that we will never run out of ideas or stop trying.
